This flexible program is designed for students with a variety of professional and educational backgrounds related broadly to the field of Education who wish to pursue a Master of Education degree. The program focuses on curriculum studies and students’ professional interests through a variety of electives in content or pedagogy. Students in this program come from higher education, administration, public and private PK-12 schools, coaching, non formal education, international education, and other fields. While teacher licensure is not required for admissions, teachers with an initial license may use this degree to meet their own professional goals including career advancement, professional license and professional development. Areas of focus within the M.Ed. program can include coursework in Education Studies, Elementary Education, Language and Culture, Leadership, Curriculum, and Inclusive Practices and Differentiation. Students can select pathways through the program that are all online including both asynchronous and synchronous/zoom based course options or they can select in person and hybrid course options that meet on campus, or any combination of course modalities. Students entering the program in Fall 2025 or later may select either a traditional Research Methods and Thesis option or an Applied Research Project pathway.
Admissions Requirements
In addition to the general admission requirements for graduate study at WSU, candidates must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited Institution or from a recognized foreign institution of higher education
- Have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher.

- Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended showing a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Official transcript evaluation for any transcript from outside the United States
- An English language proficiency test if the student’s academic background is not in English
All students in the M.Ed. in Education take sixteen credits in core courses including coursework in Advanced Foundations in Education, Curriculum Development, Diversity, Educational Technology, and a Seminar focused on Curriculum Leadership. Students determine a concentration area with their program coordinator and take twelve elective credits (4 courses) in their concentration. Students work with their program coordinator to select a seven credit research sequence; either Research in Education/Ethical Research/Thesis or Research on Current Issues in Education/Applied Research Seminar. The final course in the program is ES 926 Portfolio Evaluation, which must be taken during the final semester of coursework. Students may complete the 36 credit minimum M.Ed. in Education program with part-time or full-time status.
